Thank you for checking out our submissions page, which has new information as of May 2019.
We have decided to move away from the “issue” format that we have used for many years. Times have changed, and we feel that it is time to adapt. There were many reasons for creating issues, primarily because we hoped that people would discover new writing while browsing what is familiar or sharing their own. Many people have shared their first public work on our pages, and with the mission of sharing with the community- it seemed like quarterly issues were the way to go.
We also realize that in between issues and contending with delays in editor tasks in a volunteer-run system, issues contribute to a lag time where work is in limbo. We apologize for that, and are hoping that consistent content will allow us to respond to submissions with a faster turnaround. We also want the content to be fresh, and keep people reading in a more steady pattern.
So this is how we will roll:
*Send one poem or fiction item, and a bio if you would like one. We don’t care how you craft your bio. A link to your website, information about a book, your awards and accolades, your nominations for whatevers, your artist statement… you do you, and just send it. If you choose not to, that is fine.
Provide the title. Provide the name that you want underneath it. Provide your bio. Provide a credit or some kind of note if it has appeared elsewhere and the elsewhere doesn’t mind. We believe that your creative work is yours, and we are sharing it. We make nothing, so we pay nothing, and we don’t mean any disrespect by that practice. If we made a profit, we would certainly share it.
For poetry, please be advised that formatting weird spaces and email/document/browser cooperation can be problematic. If you are attached to a very specific configuration, like words in the shape of a bird, consider sending a graphic that can be displayed as a photo vs. web text.
Yes, we have produced chapbooks and other kinds of books and we will do that again. At this time, we are not open for submissions on books.
