This is not totally uncommon when Americans go to other countries they tend to be overly loud and obnoxious. Their reputation is not so great when it comes to vacation spots. This is mainly because they do not understand nor do they care about the culture and way of life of the places and people they are visiting. They expect things to be as if they are on a beach in Florida or in the mountains of Colorado where their every whim is taken care of in a quick and efficient manner no matter how rude they may be.

Large, bloated, and altogether disoriented, the American Empire does not see the undertow created by a parasitic economy that seeks to drain not only the host (The Global community) but drain anyone that come in contact with this parasite that must feed, feed, feed, drain, and feed.....

Until the parasite, now sick with the abiding flu-disease called 'Debt', will soon collapse drunk, poisoned, and at long long last, impotent and dying.

As a recently turned 60-year-old poet with two masters's degrees in poetics from defunct New College of California in San Francisco (the alma mater of the talented author of the article), I need a good healthcare plan, something Obama wants to provide. As Paul alludes to, these rich Republlicans and barely out of the mental health institutionalization milieu Joe Lieberman acutally have the audacity to think we can do without this healthcare.

I have seen the people at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco living ragged in the streets, waiting for shelter care, hungry, starving for the government to do something to help outside of generous Cecil Williams, former Glide pastor, his wife former poet laureate of San Francisco Janice Mirikitani, and all the fine Glide staff to save several hundred people a day from starving and having no shelter.

Obama is trying to step up and save the country from the mess that Dubya created, and Trent Lott and the other rich rednecks are trying to perpetuate. Look for a horredous fight over something Roosevelt and Martin Luther King and other progressives of the past are perhaps looking upon, sending their angelic vibe, wondering if Obama and his bright shining star administration will save a few lives.

The psychology of this country needs to be studied and understood.

As much as people would like to have all of these helpful structures within this culture, there are aspects that must be looked at. Such as a Nation very driven by a 'free market' mentality that says profits over well being 95% of the time. When you have this psychology well in hand, you create an addiction. A deep addiction that refuses to see the well-being of the individual.

As long as the individual becomes another commodity buying commodities, then well being becomes a price tag to be over-inflated, and placed on our foreheads.

Has anyone been to Europe? Nationlized health system has many problems. Waiting six months to be checked while having a heart attack is not recommended
as far as I'm concerned. While in Austria and Germany, a few years ago, I walked down sidewalks with other pedestrians that had difficulty manuevering around the city with back and hip disorders. One of my friends from England, has mentioned several times how bad the dental problems are in the UK. We need the government to put a stop to inflated insurance costs. Insurance is taking over America. Our citzens health and welfare should come first.

People will only care about health care when they lose it for themselves, as many are with 10-14% unemployment. The jobs are going and they aren't coming back, and we can either deal with the fact that health insurance is linked to employment or not. Why should I pay a worker's 19,000 a year insurance tab? I can hire somebody in another country, where I don't have to deal with a union or safety or those things that make being fair a pain in the ass.

I'm not unpatriotic but I think that we have handed over our country to the multinational corporatocracy and we are never getting it back unless we declare CIVIL WAR AGAIN. Not against ourselves, but against the

It is past time for our country to start putting the health and welfare of our citizens ahead of corporate financial interests. Today's economic situation is a clear demonstration of what corporate greed will do to the country and the population if it is permitted to continue unconstrained. How could providing healthcare for everybody via the public option be even remotely construed as a bad or evil idea. The whole situation disgusts me and makes me feel that the politicians in Washington are all bought and paid for by the special interests that are working hard and spending millions in their attempt to maintain the status quo. Wake up and smell the coffee and put nationalized healthcare into place now and then shift the focus to education which is the real core strength of any national power.

I don't think it's a matter of In the eye of the observer. Yeah, it some respects it looks like a hangover losing steam, but in a whole lot of real basic ways it appears this country's edging back toward "the good old days." I know a couple of things: that while a lot of black people have made it out of ghettos, millions and millions are still there facing bigger evils with less hope than ever. Meawhile, we've got a burgeoning homegrown nazi movement these days with those town hall fourth reichers and what they've done already is shift the entire two-party paradigm several degrees rightward. They're already talking and jocking like they own the fucking country. They don't say the n-word out front yet--they have all kinds of code for that one, mainly having to do with "crime"--but the day is not far off. We already have senators who are willing to stand up in public and say that "welfare recipients"--another code word for black--will breed just like "rats" unless the "decent" Americans do something.
The U.S. is headed backward in major ways, in ways that can be measured, observed, documented, et al., that a a growing part of objective reality and have nothing to do with Eye of the Beholder.

The Race card, the Big card, the Wild card, the Waiting card.....

And yet, in the face of strong economic downturnings, this card becomes a Charged card. One drenched with the type of ironies that causes the heads to be scratched.

Rappers of the Day and Rappers of the moment are worshipped by Black and White alike, who feel lost in the trenches of the Machinery that unfolds in the Land of Wall Street's Golden Promises and Heartbreak. Sports idols are worshipped and admired. Shauny Davis gets his nod, alongside Shaun White. Both recognized for their Wintertime feats.....

Today, Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis goes for the type of box office magic that was struck by Mel 'Mad Max' Gibson and Danny 'Getting Too Old For This Shit' Glover. And who can resist the voice of 'God', Morgan Freeman...?

The Race card. Such a Hyped card that gets so much play that you would think she would put out at long last, and give us all the orgasm that we have wanted from her since the Civil Acts bill was past in 1964....

But truth to be told, this Race card, this Wild card seems to play like a Quantum card: in the eye of the observer, Racism either lingers like a hard on in gym class or Racisim continues to lose its sting like a hangover after a too good night out with the crew....

Or perhaps like an apocalyptic prophecy yet to be known, we will all be ushered into the new high tide of a revelation that will sweep across the consciousness of us all.

I think in some cities crime has in fact gone down, but that is certainly not true of every city. Used to be that people tried to get out of the cities, now nobody can afford to go back. Depends where, I guess.

A robbery or other invasion of the home is serious scary business, very traumatic. Wow.
